Description
For household members who slept under a bed net that was not obtained through a campaign, an antenatal visit, or an immunization visit, MLNETSOURCE (HML23) reports the source of the bed net used.
For household members who slept under more than one bed net the previous night, MLNETSOURCE refers to the net numbered in MLNETINDX (HMLIDX).
Comparability
In addition to universe differences and slight differences in question wording, MLNETSOURCE (HML23) differs across samples in the response categories.
The harmonized coding categories in the IPUMS-DHS variable MLNETSRC were constructed to reflect the major and minor categories in the original DHS variable (HML23). The major categories are:
- 100: Health facility
- 200: Other commercial sources
- 300: Other non-commercial sources
The second and third digits of MLNETSOURCE'S codes distinguish between specific locations and provide detail present in only some samples.
Comparability - Standard DHS
MLNETSOURCE (HML23) is included as a standard variable in Phase VII of the standard DHS questionnaire.
