Description
DELTRANTYPE_01 reports the mode of transportation the respondent used to reach the health facility for delivery (for the last birth).
Comparability
Apart from universe differences and slight differences in question wording, DELTRANTYPE_01 has no comparability problems.
The harmonized coding categories in the IPUMS-DHS variable DELTRANTYPE_01 were constructed to reflect the major and minor categories in similar DHS variables. The major categories are:
- 100: Motorized vehicle
- 200: Non-motorized
The second and third digits of DELTRANTYPE_01 codes distinguish between specific modes of transportation and provide detail present in only some samples.

DELTRANTYPE_01 is a country-specific variable, and it is not included in any phase of the standard DHS questionnaire.
Universe
- Bangladesh 2018: Ever-married women age 15-49 who gave birth in the 3 years before the survey and who delivered the last-born child in a health facility, and who didn't travel to the health facility from another health facility.
- India 2015: Women age 15-49 who gave birth in the 5 years before the survey and delivered the child in a health facility.
- India 2019: Women age 15-49 who gave birth in the 5 years before the survey and delivered the child in a health facility.
