Description
For women who are not currently using a contraceptive method, FPNONMM4 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported Population Services International (Sun Quality Network) as a source of family planning. This response category is country-specific to Myanmar.
Some samples in the "FPNON" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
FPNONMM4 is combined with FPNONMM2 (Marie Stopes International), FPNONMM3 (Myanmar Red Cross), FPNONMM5 (Myanmar Medical Association), and FPNONMM6 (Other NGO) in FPNONNGO (all NGOs) for the 2015 Myanmar sample.
IPUMS-DHS users interested in using FPNONMM4 are encouraged to reviewed FPNONNGO for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
Apart from slight universe differences, FPNONMM4 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question about where family planning can be obtained for women not currently using a method is included in Phase IV forward of the standard DHS questionnaire. FPNONMM4 is a country-specific response.
To increase comparability across samples, IPUMS-DHS created the standard variable FPNONNGO to integrate samples including "NGO" as a source of family planning. FPNONMM4 is combined with other NGO responses in that standard variable for the 2015 Myanmar sample. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of FPNONMM4 or the Comparability Tab of FPNONNGO for more information on the specific categories combined for the Myanmar 2015.
