Description
For women who are not currently using a contraceptive method, FPNONMM5 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported the Myanmar Medical Association (MMA) as a source of family planning. This response category is country-specific to Myanmar.
Some samples in the "FPNON" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
FPNONMM5 is combined with FPNONMM2 (Marie Stopes International), FPNONMM3 (Myanmar Red Cross), FPNONMM4 (Population Services International [Sun Quality Network]), and FPNONMM6 (Other NGO) in FPNONNGO for the 2015 Myanmar sample.
IPUMS-DHS users interested in using FPNONMM5 are encouraged to reviewed FPNONNGO for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
Apart from slight universe differences, FPNONMM5 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question about where family planning can be obtained for women not currently using a method is included in Phase IV forward of the standard DHS questionnaire. FPNONMM5 is a country-specific response.
To increase comparability across samples, IPUMS-DHS created the standard variable FPNONNGO to integrate samples including "NGO" as a source of family planning. FPNONMM5 is combined with other NGO responses in that standard variable for the 2015 Myanmar sample. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of FPNONMM5 or the Comparability Tab of FPNONNGO for more information on the specific categories combined for the Myanmar 2015.
