Description
HCFMM5 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the woman reported the Myanmar Red Cross as a source for female condoms. This response category is country-specific to Myanmar.
Some samples in the "HCM" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
HCFMM5 is combined with HCFMM4 (Marie Stopes International), HCFMM6 (Population Services International/Myanmar [PSI/M]), HCFMM7 (Myanmar Medical Association), and HCFMM8 (other NGO) in HCFNGO (all NGOs) for the 2015 Myanmar sample. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using HCFMM5 are encouraged to review HCFNGO for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
HCFMM5 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question on known sources for female condoms is included in the standard DHS questionnaire in Phases IV forward.
Although HCFMM5 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS modules, it is combined with other responses in HCFNGO, a standard variable that encompasses all NGOs as potential sources for female condoms. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of HCFMM5 or the Comparability tab of HCFNGO for more information on the specific categories combined for the 2015 Myanmar sample.
