Description
For women who have heard of HIV/AIDS, AIDTHRUMOTHER indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the respondent reported a person can get HIV/AIDS through transmission from a mother to her child.
Comparability
Apart from universe differences and slight differences in question wording, AIDTHRUMOTHER has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
In Phase III of the standard DHS questionnaire, the standard questionnaire asks an open-ended question about ways people can become infected with HIV/AIDS. AIDTHRUMOTHER is a country-specific response category.
Universe
- Central African Republic 1995: Women age 15-49 who have heard of HIV/AIDS.
- Chad 1996: Women age 15-49 who have heard of HIV/AIDS.
- Chad 2004: Women age 15-49 who have heard of HIV/AIDS.
- Egypt 2003: Ever-married women age 15-49.
