Description

CALPREG_RC is a flag variable indicating whether the months of a reported pregnancy were right-censored, or truncated, by the end of the calendar period. If the last (interview) month of the calendar period for a woman included a pregnancy (but not the final month of the pregnancy indicated by a birth or pregnancy termination), then every month of that pregnancy during the calendar period is coded "1" (yes), as right-censored. If a pregnancy is right-censored by the end of the calendar period, we do not know how many months the pregnancy lasted or its final outcome (birth versus termination).

The related variable CALPREG_LC flags all months of a pregnancy (including the month of birth or termination) that overlaps with the start of the calendar period.

Because the length of a pregnancy cannot be determined if that pregnancy is left- or right-censored, truncated pregnancies are excluded from summary variables about the duration of a pregnancy (including the month of birth or pregnancy termination). Specifically,
