Description
For women who had malaria in the last year, were prescribed medication to treat the malaria, and purchased the prescribed medication, MLTRELRXGH2 indicates whether they purchased the anti-malarial medication at a private chemist or drug store.
Some samples in the "MLTRELRX" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
MLTRELRXGH2 is combined with MLTRELRXGH1 (private pharmacy) in MLTRELRXPRIVDRUG (all private, formal drug sources) for the 2016 Ghana sample. IPUMS DHS users interested in using MLTRELRXGH2 are encouraged to review MLTRELRXPRIVDRUG for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
MLTRELRXGH2 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
MLTRELRXPGH2 is a country-specific variable, and it is not included in any phase of the standard DHS questionnaire.
Although MLTRELRXGH2 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS questionnaires, it is combined with other responses in MLTRELRXPRIVDRUG, which encompasses all private, formal drug sources for malaria treatment. IPUMS DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of MLTRELRXGH2 or the Comparability tab of MLTRELRXPRIVDRUG for more information on the specific categories combined for the 2016 Ghana sample.
