GEO_ZA1998 (V101_ZA1998) reports the region of South Africa where the respondent was interviewed, using provinces as the geographic unit.

Other South African sample years have their own sample-specific geography variables. The integrated geographic variable GEO_ZA1998_2016 provides spatially consistent units over time across South African samples.
