Comparability
In addition to universe differences, the wording of this response category varies slightly across samples. Most commonly, this question was organized under the "other source" header and referred to a "bar" or "bar/nightclub." In some cases, however, multiple categories were consolidated to form a single, more comprehensive response. Countries of particular interest are noted below.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question about where family planning can be obtained is included in Phase IV forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.
Though responses in this variable are country-specific and not included in the standard DHS modules, they are integrated in FPNONBAR to increase comparability across samples.
Comparability — Guinea [top]
For the 2012 Guinean survey, this response category is organized under an "other source" header, but is worded as "bar/nightclub/hotel."
Comparability — Niger [top]
In the 2006 Niger sample, there are two separate categories for "bar/nightclub" and "hotel." Because this variable relates to both these responses, the two responses are consolidated in FPNONBAR to create a more comprehensive category.
Comparability — Tanzania [top]
In the 2010 Tanzania sample, there are two separate categories for "bar" and "hotel." Because this variable relates to both these responses, the two responses are consolidated in FPNONBAR to create a more comprehensive category.
