Description
HCMTZ3 indicates whether the woman reported a religious health center as a source for male condoms. This response category is country-specific to Tanzania.
Some samples in the "HCM" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
HCMTZ3 is combined with HCMTZ1 (religious referral hospital), HCMTZ2 (religious district hospital), and HCMTZ4 (religious dispensary) in HCMPRIVMIS (all faith-based facilities) for the 2004 and 2010 Tanzania samples. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using HCMTZ3 are encouraged to review HCMPRIVMIS for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
HCMTZ3 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question on known sources for male condoms is included in the standard DHS questionnaire in Phases III forward.
Though HCMTZ3 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in HCMPRIVMIS, a variable that encompasses all faith-based facilities as sources of male condoms. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of HCMTZ3 or the Comparability tab of HCMPRIVMIS for more information on the specific categories combined for Tanzania 2004 and 2010.
