Description

AGLANDAMT1 (HV245) reports the amount of agricultural land owned by the household, in tenths of a hectare. Thus, a value of "2" means 2/10th of a hectare, and a value of "20" means 2 hectares.

The related variable AGLANDAMT2 reports the amount of agricultural land owned by the household in terms of full hectares. Thus, for AGLANDAMT2, a value of "2" means 2 hectare of agricultural land owned, and a value of "20" means 20 hectares.

By grouping responses from AGLANDAMT1 (e.g., grouping cases coded from 20 to 29 in AGLANDAMT1 to equal a code of 2 in AGLANDAMT2), researchers can combine samples appearing in these two variables.

Comparability

Apart from universe differences, AGLANDAMT1 (HV245) is comparable across most samples.

Survey forms collected information using various local units of measurement, such as acre, jerib, feddan, kirate, plot, and football pitch, as well as in hectares. The DHS Program converted responses into hectares as a standardized unit of measurement when creating the standard variable HV245.
