Description
For women who delivered their most recent birth in a health facility, AIDTBEOFFER (V839A) indicates whether they were offered an HIV/AIDS test after they arrived at the health facility but before the baby was born.
The related variable AIDTBET indicates whether the woman was actually tested at this time.
IPUMS-DHS users may also be interested in AIDTANOFFER, a standard variable that indicates whether the woman was offered an HIV/AIDS test as part of antenatal care.
Comparability
AIDTBEOFFER (V839A) is largely comparable across samples. Most commonly, this question is worded as "Between the time you went for delivery but before the baby was born, were you offered a test for the AIDS virus?" or some slight variation.
Comparability - Standard DHS
AIDTBEOFFER (V839A) is first included in the standard DHS questionnaire in Phase VI.
