ALEVER is a country-specific variable not included in the standard DHS questionnaire.
Comparability — Ethiopia [top]
The 2011 and 2016 Ethiopia surveys ask, "Have you ever taken a drink that contains alcohol (Tella/Tegi/Areke/Beer/Wine, etc...)?"
Comparability — Kenya [top]
The 2003 Kenya survey asks, "Have you ever drunk any kind of alcohol like beer, wine, chang'aa, palm wine, etc.?"
Comparability — Namibia [top]
The 2013 Namibia survey asks, "Have you ever consumed an alcoholic drink, such as beer, wine, spirits, or other home-brewed liquor?"
Comparability — Tanzania [top]
The 2015 Tanzania survey asks, "Have you ever consumed a drink that contains alcohol such as beer, wine, spirits, fermented cider, or local brewers such as mbege, ulanzi, gongo/chang'aa, etc.?"
