Description
For women who gave birth in the last 5 years and who received antenatal care during their most recent pregnancy, ANCBD7_01 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported receiving care from a private medical college hospital. This response category is country-specific to Bangladesh.
Some samples in the "ANC" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
ANCBD7_01 is combined with ANCBD6_01 (private hospital/clinic) in ANCPRIVHOS_01 (all private hospitals and clinics) for the 2011 Bangladesh samples. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using ANCBD7_01 are encouraged to review ANCPRIVHOS_01 for a more comprehensive response category.
For the 2018 Bangladesh samples, ANCBD7_01 is combined with ANCBD16_01 (private hospital) and ANCBD17_01 (private clinic) in ANCPRIVHOS_01 (all private hospitals and clinics) for the 2018 Bangladesh samples.
Comparability
Apart from universe differences, ANCBD7_01 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question on where antenatal care was sought is included in Phase V forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.
Although ANCBD7_01 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in ANCPRIVHOS_01, a variable that encompasses all private hospital and clinics as sources of antenatal care. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of ANCBD7_01 or the Comparability tab of ANCPRIVHOS_01 for more information on the specific categories combined for Bangladesh 2011 and 2018.
