Description

For women who gave birth in the last 5 years and who received antenatal care during their most recent pregnancy, ANCBI2_01 indicates whether they received care at a public regional reference hospital. This response category is country-specific to Burundi.

Some samples in the "ANC" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

ANCBI2_01 is combined with ANCBI1_01 (public national reference hospital) and ANCBI3_01 (public district hospital) in ANCPUBHOS_01 (all public hospitals) for the 2016 Burundi survey. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using ANCBI2_01 are encouraged to review ANCPUBHOS_01 for a more comprehensive response category.

ANCBI2_01 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question on where antenatal care was sought is included in Phase V forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.

Although ANCBI2_01 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in ANCPUBHOS_01, a variable that encompasses all public hospitals as sources of antenatal care.
