Description
For women who gave birth in the last 5 years and who received antenatal care during their most recent pregnancy, ANCEG4_01 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported receiving care at a public "rural health unit." This response category is country-specific to Egypt.
Some samples in the "ANC" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
ANCEG4_01 is combined with ANCEG3_01 (public urban health unit) in ANCPUBHC_01 (all public health centers) for the 2005, 2008, and 2014 Egypt samples. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using ANCEG4_01 are encouraged to review ANCPUBHC_01 for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
ANCEG4_01 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question on where antenatal care was sought is included in Phase V forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.
Although ANCEG4_01 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in ANCPUBHC_01, a variable that encompasses all public health centers as sources of antenatal care. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of ANCEG4_01 or the Comparability tab of ANCPUBHC_01 for more information on the specific categories combined for Egypt 2005, 2008, and 2014.
