Description

For women who gave birth in the last 5 years and who received antenatal care during their most recent pregnancy, ANCEG5_01 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported receiving care from the "CSI Project" (Clinical Service Improvement project). This response category is country-specific to Egypt.

Some samples in the "ANC" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

ANCEG5_01 is combined with ANCEG6_01 (other NGO) in ANCNGO_01 (all NGOs) for the 2005, and 2008, and 2014 Egypt samples. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using ANCEG5_01 are encouraged to review ANCNGO_01 for a more comprehensive response category.

Comparability

ANCEG5_01 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question on where antenatal care was sought is included in Phase V forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.

Although ANCEG5_01 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in ANCNGO_01, a variable that encompasses all nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) as sources of antenatal care. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of ANCEG5_01 or the Comparability tab of ANCNGO_01 for more information on the specific categories combined for Egypt 2005, 2008, and 2014.
