Description
ANCNOHUSPERM_01 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the woman reported that she did not receive antenatal care (for the last birth) because her husband/partner did not allow her to go.
Some samples in the "ANCNO" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
ANCNOHUSPERM_01 is combined with ANCNOMPERM_01 (other male family member did not give permission) and ANCNOFPERM_01 (female family member did not give permission) in ANCNOPERM_01 (not allowed to go to antenatal care) for the 2019 Liberia sample. IPUMS DHS users interested in using ANCNOHUSPERM_01 are encouraged to review ANCNOPERM_01 for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
ANCNOHUSPERM_01 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
ANCNOHUSPERM_01 is a country-specific variable, and it is not included in any phase of the standard DHS questionnaire. It is combined with other responses in ANCNOPERM_01 a variable that encompasses permission to receive antenatal care in general. IPUMS DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of ANCNOHUSPERM_01 or the Comparability tab of ANCNOPERM_01 for more information on the specific categories combined for the Liberia samples.
