Comparability - Standard DHS
ANCNOPERM_01 is a country-specific variable, and it is not included in any phase of the standard DHS questionnaire.
Comparability — Bangladesh [top]
The 2000, 2004, and 2007 Bangladesh surveys include "Was unable/not permitted to go out of the house" as a response category.
Comparability — Liberia [top]
The 2019 Liberia survey asks separately about not having permission to receive antenatal care from her husband, other male family member, and a female family member. Because this variable focuses on permission to receive antenatal care in general, these three responses are consolidated in ANCNOPERM_01 to create a more comprehensive response category. For researchers interested in preserving these country-specific categories:
- Husband/partner did not give permission is listed as ANCNOHUSPERM_01 in IPUMS-DHS
- Other male family member did not give permission is listed as ANCNOMPERM_01 in IPUMS-DHS
- Female family member did not give permission is listed as ANCNOFPERM_01 in IPUMS-DHS
