Description
For women who gave birth in the last 5 years and who received antenatal care during their most recent pregnancy, ANCNP10_01 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported receiving care from some other non-governmental organization. The meaning of "other" must be interpreted relative to the specific categories included in a particular survey. This response category is country-specific to Nepal.
Some samples in the "ANC" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
ANCNP10_01 is combined with other NGOs in the 2006, 2011, and 2016 Nepal surveys.
- In the 2006 Nepal survey, ANCNP10_01 is combined with ANCNP6_01 (UMN/Red Cross hospital) in ANCNGO (all NGOs).
- In the 2011 Nepal survey, ANCNP10_01 is combined with ANCNP6_01 (UMN), ANCNP7_01 (FPAN), ANCNP8_01 (Marie Stopes), and ANCNP9_01 (ADRA) in ANCNGO (all NGOs).
- In the 2016 Nepal survey, ANCNP10_01 is combined with ANCNP7_01 (FPAN) and ANCNP8_01 (Marie Stopes) in ANCNGO (all NGOs).
IPUMS-DHS users interested in using ANCNP10_01 are encouraged to review ANCNGO_01 for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
ANCNP10_01 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question on where antenatal care was sought is included in Phase V forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.
Although ANCNP10_01 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in ANCNGO_01, a variable that encompasses all NGOs as sources of antenatal care. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of ANCNP10_01 or the Comparability tab of ANCNGO_01 for more information on the specific categories combined for Nepal 2006, 2011, and 2016.
