Description
For women who gave birth in the last 5 years and who received antenatal care during their most recent pregnancy, ANCNP1_01 indicates whether they received care at a public health post. This response category is country-specific to Nepal.
Some samples in the "ANC" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
ANCNP1_01 is combined with ANCNP2_01 (public sub-health post) in ANCPUBHP_01 (all public health posts) for the 2006 and 2011 Nepal surveys. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using ANCNP1_01 are encouraged to review ANCPUBHP_01 for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
ANCNP1_01 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question on where antenatal care was sought is included in Phase V forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.
Although ANCNP1_01 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in ANCPUBHP_01, a variable that encompasses all public health posts as sources of antenatal care. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of ANCNP1_01 or the Comparability tab of ANCPUBHP_01 for more information on the specific categories combined for Nepal 2006 and 2011.
