Description
For women who gave birth in the last 5 years and who received antenatal care during their most recent pregnancy, ANCPK2_01 indicates whether they received care at a public basic health unit (BHU) or family welfare center (FWC). This response category is country-specific to Pakistan.
Some samples in the "ANC" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
ANCPK2_01 is combined with ANCPK1_01 (public rural health center/mother and child health center) in ANCPUBHC_01 (all public health centers) for the 2006, 2012, and 2017 Pakistan surveys. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using ANCPK2_01 are encouraged to review ANCPUBHC_01 for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
ANCPK2_01 differs slightly in the wording of the response category. The 2006 and 2012 Pakistan surveys list "BHU/FWC" as a response category. The 2017 Pakistan survey lists only "BHU."
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question on where antenatal care was sought is included in Phase V forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.
Although ANCPK2_01 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in ANCPUBHC_01, a variable that encompasses all public health centers as sources of antenatal care. IPUM-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of ANCPK2_01 or the Comparability tab of ANCPUBHC_01 for more information on the specific categories combined for Pakistan 2006, 2012, and 2017.
