ANKNOWLONGLAB is a country-specific variable, and it is not included in any phase of the standard DHS questionnaire.
Comparability — Bangladesh [top]
The 2000 Bangladesh survey first asks an open-ended question about complications during pregnancy, childbirth, and after delivery that require medical treatment. This is followed by a series of closed-ended (yes/no) questions asking whether the respondent has heard of the specific complications. The 2000 Bangladesh survey includes "labor for more than 18 hours" as a response category.
The 2004 Bangladesh survey asks an open-ended question about complications during pregnancy, delivery, and after delivery that may cause death to the mother. The 2004 Bangladesh survey includes "prolong[ed] labor" as a response category.
Comparability — Uganda [top]
The 2001 Uganda survey includes "difficult labor for more than 12 hours" as a response to an open-ended question about symptoms that indicate a pregnancy may be in danger.
