Description
For women in households who have ever received assistance - such as money, food, or some "other" form of assistance - from a government or non-governmental organization (NGO), ASSISTIMNO, combined with ASSISTIMUNIT, reports the last time the household received assistance.
IPUMS-DHS users should note that the codes in this variable are not reported in a specific unit i.e. months or years. Rather, the unit of time in which the woman responded is reported in ASSISTIMUNIT. As a result, researchers interested in using ASSISTIMNO should also use ASSISTIMUNIT, or ASSISTIMCOM, a composite variable that reports both the units in which the respondent gave her answer and the time in the units given.
The information in ASSISTIMNO is taken from the household record, linked to the record of the woman respondent. This information applies to household residents, not temporary visitors, so researchers may wish to exclude visitors using the RESIDENT variable (with visitors coded "2").
