ASSOCMEMBR (V132) indicates whether the woman was a member of a woman's association, organization, or cooperative. For some samples, the type of organization is also specified. See Comparability.
In addition to slight differences in question wording, ASSOCMEMBR (V132) varies in the number of response categories. To maximize comparability, IPUMS-DHS uses composite coding, with a first digit of 0 indicating no membership and a first digit of 1 indicating membership in some organization. The second digit distinguishes between types of organizations the respondent may be a member of.
Comparability - Standard DHS
ASSOCMEMBR (V132) is included in Phase I, Model B of the standard DHS questionnaire. However, there is no standard wording for this question.
