Description
ATAF2 indicates whether the woman reported a public basic health center as a place to be tested for the AIDS virus. This response category is country-specific to Afghanistan.
Some samples in the "AT" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
ATAF2 is combined with ATAF1 (public comprehensive health center/polyclinic), and ATAF3 (public health sub-center) in ATPUBHC (all public health centers) for the 2015 Afghanistan sample. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using ATAF2 are encouraged to review ATPUBHC for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
ATAF2 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question about where one can get tested for the AIDS virus is included in Phase V forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.
Although ATAF2 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in ATPUBHC, a variable that encompasses all public health centers as potential sources for an AIDS test. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of ATAF2 or the Comparability tab of ATPUBHC for more information on the specific categories combined for Afghanistan 2015.
