Description

ATET2 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the woman reported a non-governmental organization (NGO) stand-alone voluntary counseling and testing (VCT) center as a place to be tested for the AIDS virus. This response category is country-specific to Ethiopia.

Some samples in the "AT" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

ATET2 is combined with ATET1 (NGO health facility) in ATNGO (all NGOs) for the 2005 Ethiopia sample. Additionally, ATET2 is combined with ATET1, ATET3 (NGO mobile clinic), and ATET4 (Other NGO) in ATNGO for Ethiopia 2011. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using ATET2 are encouraged to review ATNGO for a more comprehensive response category.

Comparability

Apart from slight universe differences, ATET2 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question about where one can get tested for the AIDS virus is included in Phase V forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.

Though ATET2 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS modules, it is combined with other responses in ATNGO, a standard variable that encompasses all NGOs as potential sources for an AIDS test. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of ATET2 or the Comparability tab of ATNGO for more information on the specific categories combined for the Ethiopia samples.
