Description
ATEVEG24H indicates whether the woman respondent ate vegetables during the previous day, either at night or during the daytime.
Some samples in this series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, such as ATEOFRTVEG24H, while preserving the separate responses in separate variables.
Comparability — Index
GENERAL |
Nepal |
Comparability
ATEVEG24H has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
ATEVEG24H is a country-specific variable not included in any standard DHS questionnaire. The standard DHS questionnaire for Phase 5 includes questions about food and drink eaten by the woman during the previous day, including room for country-specific choices.
Comparability — Nepal [top]
The Nepal 2016 questionnaire refers to "Other vegetables: Cauliflower, cabbage, eggplant, green papaya, radish, onion, etc."
ATEVEG24H is combined with ATEFRUIT24H (fruit) in ATEOFRTVEG24H (V472L) (other fruits and vegetables) for the 2016 Nepal sample. IPUMS DHS users interested in ATEVEG24H are encouraged to review ATEOFRTVEG24H for a more comprehensive response category.
Universe
- Nepal 2016: Women age 15-49 who have at least one surviving child under age 3 living with her.
- Nigeria 2018: All women age 15-49.

I am interested in whether you had any food items I will mention even if they were combined with other foods. For example, if you had a soup made with carrots, potatoes and meat, you should reply "yes" for each of these ingredients when I read you the list. However, if you consumed only the broth of the soup, but not the meat or vegetables, do not reply "yes" for the meat or vegetable.
As I ask you about foods and drinks, please think of foods and drinks you have had as snacks or small meals as well as during any main meals. Please also remember foods you may have eaten while preparing meals or preparing food for others.
Please do not include any food used in small amount for seasoning or condiments (like spices, herbs, or crayfish powder). I will ask you about those foods separately.
