Description
ATGM4 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the female respondent reported some other NGO health facility as a place to be tested for the AIDS virus. This response category is country-specific to Gambia.
Some samples in the "AT" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
ATGM4 is combined with ATGM1 (NGO hospital or clinic), ATGM2 (NGO mobile clinic), and ATGM3 (NGO family planning clinic) in ATNGO (all NGOs) for the 2013 Gambia sample. IPUMS DHS users interested in using ATGM4 are encouraged to review ATNGO for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
ATGM4 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question about where one can get tested for the AIDS virus is included in Phase V forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.
Although ATGM4 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS modules, it is combined with other responses in ATNGO, a standard variable that encompasses all NGOs as potential sources for an AIDS test. IPUMS DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of ATGM4 or the Comparability tab of ATNGO for more information on the specific categories combined for the 2013 Gambia sample.
