Description
ATGN4 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the female respondent reported a national hospital as a place to be tested for the AIDS virus. This response category is country-specific to Guinea.
Some samples in the "AT" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
ATGN4 is combined with ATGN2 (public regional hospital) and ATGN5 (government prefectoral hospital/communal medical center) in ATPUBHOS (all public hospitals) for the 2018 Guinea sample. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using ATGN4 are encouraged to review ATPUBHOS for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
ATGN4 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question about where one can get tested for the AIDS virus is included in Phase V forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.
Although ATGN4 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS modules, it is combined with other responses in ATPUBHOS, a standard variable that encompasses all public hospitals as potential sources for an AIDS test. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of ATGN4 or the Comparability tab of ATPUBHOS for more information on the specific categories combined for the Guinea samples.
