Description

ATML5 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the woman reported a public community health center as a place to be tested for the AIDS virus. This response category is country-specific to Mali.

Some samples in the "AT" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

ATML5 is combined with ATML4 (public reference health center) in ATPUBHC (all public health centers) for the 2012 Mali sample. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using ATML5 are encouraged to review ATPUBHC for a more comprehensive response category.

Comparability

Apart from universe differences, ATML5 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question about where one can get tested for the AIDS virus is included in Phase V forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.

Though ATML5 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS modules, it is combined with other responses in ATPUBHC, a standard variable that encompasses all public health centers as potential sources for an AIDS test. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of ATML5 or the Comparability tab of ATPUBHC for more information on the specific categories combined for the Mali samples.
