Description
ATMW2 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the woman reported a public community-based distribution agent/door-to-door as a source for testing for the AIDS virus. This response category is country-specific to Malawi.
Some samples in the "AT" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
ATMW2 is combined with ATMW1 (public health surveillance assistant (HSA)) in ATPUBFW (all public fieldworkers) for the 2010 Malawi sample. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using ATMW2 are encouraged to review ATPUBFW for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
ATMW2 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question about where one can get tested for the AIDS virus is included in Phase V forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.
Though ATMW2 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS modules, it is combined with other responses in ATPUBFW, a standard variable that encompasses all public fieldworkers as potential sources for an AIDS test. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of ATMW2 or the Comparability tab of ATPUBFW for more information on the specific categories combined for the Malawi samples.
