Description
ATNP8 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the woman reported some other non-governmental organization as a place to be tested for the AIDS virus. The meaning of "other" must be interpreted relative to the specific categories included in a particular sample. This response category is country-specific to Nepal.
Some samples in the "AT" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
ATNP8 is combined with other NGOs in the 2006, 2011, and 2016 Nepal surveys.
- In the 2006 and 2011 Nepal surveys, ATNP8 is combined with ATNP3 (FPAN), ATNP4 (AMDA), ATNP5 (INF), and ATNP6 (Nepal Red Cross) in ATNGO (all NGOs).
- In the 2016 Nepal survey, ATNP8 is combined with ATNP3 (FPAN) and ATNP7 (Marie Stopes) in ATNGO (all NGOs).
IPUMS-DHS users interested in using ATNP8 are encouraged to review ATNGO for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
Apart from universe differences, ATNP8 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question about where one can get tested for the AIDS virus is included in Phase V forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.
Although ATNP8 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS modules, it is combined with other responses in ATNGO, a standard variable that encompasses all NGOs as potential sources for an AIDS test. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of ATNP8 or the Comparability tab of ATNGO for more information on the specific categories combined for the 2006, 2011, and 2016 Nepal samples.
