ATRW5 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the woman reported a private clinic as a place to be tested for the AIDS virus. This response category is country-specific to Rwanda.

Some samples in the "AT" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

ATRW5 is combined with ATRW7 (private doctor) in ATPRIVHOS (private hospital, clinic, or doctor) for the 2005 Rwanda sample. Additionally, ATRW5 is combined with ATRW6 (private polyclinic) in ATPRIVHOS for the 2010 and 2014 Rwanda samples. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using ATRW5 are encouraged to review ATPRIVHOS for a more comprehensive response category.

Comparability

Apart from universe differences, ATRW5 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question about where one can get tested for the AIDS virus is included in Phase V forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.

Though ATRW5 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS modules, it is combined with other responses in ATPRIVHOS, a standard variable that encompasses private hospitals, clinics, and doctors as potential sources for an AIDS test.
