Description
ATZW7 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the woman reported a New Start Centre, an HIV testing and counseling franchise based in Zimbabwe, as a place to be tested for the AIDS virus. This response category is country-specific to Zimbabwe.
Some samples in the "AT" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
ATZW7 is combined with ATZW9 (other private VCT center) and ATZW10 (private mobile VCT center) in ATPRIVVCT (all private VCT centers) for the 2010 Zimbabwe sample. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using ATZW7 are encouraged to review ATPRIVVCT for a more comprehensive response category.
Comparability
ATZW7 has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question about where one can get tested for the AIDS virus is included in Phase V forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.
Though ATZW7 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS modules, it is combined with other responses in ATPRIVVCT, a standard variable that encompasses all private voluntary counseling and testing (VCT) centers as potential sources for an AIDS test. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of ATZW7 or the Comparability tab of ATPRIVVCT for more information on the specific categories combined for the Zimbabwe samples.
