Codes and Frequencies
Description
BHCSAFETY indicates whether the woman reported "concern about security" as a barrier to getting medical care for herself.
Comparability
BHCSAFETY has no comparability problems. To maximize consistency with similar variables, IPUMS-DHS uses composite coding for this variable, with "Not a big problem" responses having a first digit of "1" and "Big Problem" having a first digit of "2." The second digit distinguishes between "No problem" (code "11") and "Small problem" (code "12"), when this additional information is available.
Comparability - Standard DHS
BHCSAFETY is not included in any phase of the standard DHS questionnaire, but it is based on similar questions about barriers to health care from Phase IV onward.
Universe
