Comparability
BHCWORK has no comparability problems. To maximize consistency with similar variables, IPUMS-DHS uses composite coding for this variable, with "Not a big problem" responses having a first digit of "1" and "Big Problem" having a first digit of "2." The second digit distinguishes between "No problem" (code "11") and "Small problem" (code "12"), when this additional information is available.
Comparability - Standard DHS
BHCWORK is not included in any phase of the standard DHS questionnaire, but it is based on similar questions about barriers to health care from Phase IV onward.
