Description

BIOFLINENOPARENT (V452B) reports the line number, in the household listing, of the parent or caretaker of a respondent under age 18 whose hemoglobin levels were measured, based on blood drawn by DHS personnel.

Comparability

Apart from universe differences, BIOFLINENOPARENT (V452B) is largely comparable across samples.

This variable only applies to women under age 18 who, in most samples, have never been married. Because recording this information correctly requires the interviewer to check multiple responses (e.g., age, marital status), some women are erroneously included or excluded from this variable. For example, some married women are included in BIOFLINENOPARENT even though they do not require the consent of a parent or caretaker.

Comparability - Standard DHS

BIOFLINENOPARENT (V452B) is included in Phase IV forward of the standard DHS recode.
