Description

For women who have been told by a doctor that she has high blood pressure or hypertension, BPEXERCISE indicates whether she is currently exercising to lower her blood pressure.

Comparability

Along with universe differences, BPEXERCISE varies across samples in the allowed response categories, sometimes including "not applicable" as well as "yes" and "no." To maximize comparability, IPUMS-DHS uses a common first digit of "1" for both non-affirmative ("no" and "not applicable") responses, and distinguishes between "no" and "not applicable" in the second digit of the harmonized codes.
