Description
For children born in the five years preceding the survey, BRSFEDCAT indicates whether the child was ever breastfed, and, if so, whether the child is still breastfeeding.
The related variable BRSFEDUR (M4) reports the number of months of breastfeeding for children who are no longer being breastfed. BRSFEDMO (M5) reports the calculated number of months of breastfeeding, including children who were still breastfeeding at the time of the interview.
Comparability
Apart from universe differences, BRSFEDCAT has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
BRSFEDCAT is included in the standard DHS questionnaire for Phase VI forward. Prior to Phase VI, BRSFEDUR (M4) reported the calculated months of breastfeeding for children who are no longer breastfed. A few samples in DHS Phase VI continued to report months of breastfeeding rather than the broad categories of BRSFEDCAT.
