Description
For women who used a contraceptive method at some point during the calendar period, CALCONTR_STOP_TOTAL reports how many times the woman discontinued used of a contraceptive method. For a given woman, CALCONTR_STOP_TOTAL sums the number of times CALCONTR_STOP received an affirmative response during the recall period. The number of times the woman stopped a period of continuous use of a contraceptive use is copied over to every month for that person in CALCONTR_STOP_TOTAL.
Note that stopping contraceptive use is defined as halting a period of continuous use of a particular method. For example, if a woman used the Pill only but stopped taking the Pill while her husband was away for several months, resumed taking the Pill upon her husband's return, and then stopped taking the Pill because she wanted to get pregnant, that woman is defined as stopping contraceptive use twice, even though she always used the Pill to avoid pregnancy.
Women with a value of "0" in CALCONTR_STOP_TOTAL used the same contraceptive method continuously during the recall period. A woman who used family planning every month but switched from one method to another immediately would have a value of "1" in CALCONTR_STOP_TOTAL. A woman who used a single contraceptive method one month after another for a limited period (say, 6 months) and otherwise did not use contraception during the calendar period would also have a value of "1" in CALCONTR_STOP_TOTAL.
Users interested in using CALCONT_STOP_TOTAL should also consult the documentation for CALCONTR_STOP and CALREASON.
