Description
CALRESIDENCE reports the type of community in which the woman lived during the month and identifies months when she moved to a new community.
Codes appearing in the string data for CALRESIDENCE often did not match the codes appearing on the survey form or in the final report for the sample. IPUMS DHS staff sometimes had to guess at the meaning of undocumented codes, by referring to recent aggregate data about population distribution (e.g., the percent of the population living in rural areas or in the largest cities) for the country in question. Researchers should use the data in CALRESIDENCE with caution. Code "X" in the original data consistently identified months when the woman moved to a new community, but other codes and categories varied across samples (see Comparability).

Comparability
Along with universe differences, CALRESIDENCE used inconsistent codes and differing degrees of detail across samples. See country-specific comparability text for more information about the meaning of codes for individual samples.
Comparability - Standard DHS
CALRESIDENCE is based on string data for women's samples that collected calendar data on the type of place of residence by month and the month when women moved to a different community.
