For samples that collected information on the type of pregnancy termination, CALSBIRTH reports which of the following events occurred during the month:
The related variable CALSBIRTH_TOTAL reports the total number of stillbirths women had during the entire calendar period.
All samples with calendar data report whether some unspecified type of pregnancy termination (abortion or miscarriage or stillbirth) occurred during the month, with results given in CALTERM.The sum of codes 0 and 1 in CALSBIRTH usually equals the number of affirmative responses in CALTERM; for exceptions, see country-specific comparability text.
Note that a woman was also pregnant during the month that she had a stillbirth (or other type of pregnancy termination). The month when the stillbirth occurred counts as part of the pregnancy in the following summary variables about the length of a pregnancy:

Apart from universe differences, CALSBIRTH is comparable across samples that collected data on the type of pregnancy termination.
For a few samples, the number of terminations in CALTERM does not equal the number of stillbirths plus other types of pregnancy termination reported in CALSBIRTH; see the country-specific comparability text.
Comparability - Standard DHS
CALSBIRTH is a country-specific variable taken from string data in the woman's (IR) file, for those samples that collected data on the type of pregnancy termination.
