CHAIRNUM reports the number of chairs the household has, topcoded at 7+. The complementary variable CHAIR indicates whether the household has any chairs.
GENERAL |
Benin |
CHAIRNUM has no comparability problems.
The information in CHAIRNUM is taken from the household record, linked to the record of the woman respondent. This information applies to household residents, not temporary visitors, so researchers may wish to exclude visitors using the RESIDENT variable (with visitors coded "2").
Comparability - Standard DHS
CHAIRNUM is a country-specific variable not included in the standard DHS household questionnaire.
The 2006 Benin survey asks specifically about the number of "modern chairs" owned by the household.
