Description

CON1STSEXMN (MV820) indicates whether the man used a condom the first time he had sexual intercourse.

Comparability

Apart from universe differences and slight differences in question wording, CON1STSEXMN (MV820) has no comparability problems.

To maximize comparability, IPUMS-DHS uses composite coding with "Yes" responses having a first digit of "1." The second digit distinguishes between "Yes, male condom" (code "11") and "Yes, female condom" (code "12"), when this additional information is available.
