Comparability
In addition to slight differences in question wording, the response categories in CONUS1YNOT vary across samples.
To maximize comparability, IPUMS-DHS uses composite coding, with the first digit denoting broad categories (e.g., "Access problems" have a first digit of "1"), while the second digit provides additional detail, when available. For example, a code of "12" indicates "Not available."
Comparability - Standard DHS
CONUS1YNOT is a country-specific variable not included in any phase of the standard DHS questionnaire.
Comparability — Namibia [top]
The 2000 Namibia survey does not distinguish between "Not available" and "Cost too much." These responses are coded as "Not available" in IPUMS-DHS.
