Codes and Frequencies
Description
For women who have had sexual intercourse in the last 4 weeks, CONUS4WK indicates whether a condom was used on any of those occasions.
Comparability
In addition to differences in question wording (documented on the Survey Text tab), CONUS4WK varies in the degree of detail for response. Some samples include only two response categories, indicating yes or no. Other samples include three response categories, distinguishing between "each time" and "sometimes."
To maximize comparability, IPUMS-DHS uses composite coding with "Yes" responses having a first digit of "1." The second digit distinguishes between "Yes, some occasions" (code "11") and "Yes, each time had sex" (code "12"), when this additional information is available.
Comparability - Standard DHS
CONUS4WK is a country-specific variable not included in the standard DHS questionnaire in any phase.
