CONUSHUS4WK indicates whether the respondent used a condom with her husband in the last 4 weeks.
CONUSHUS4WK only reports condom use for married women having sex with their husbands. Researchers interested in condom use in the last 4 weeks, regardless of the respondent's sexual partner, may be interested in the following variables:
- CONUS4WK indicates whether the respondent used a condom with any partner in the past 4 weeks.
- CONUSEXMAR4WK indicates whether the married respondent used a condom with anyone other than her husband in the past 4 weeks.
- CONUSUNMAR4WK indicates whether the unmarried respondent used a condom with any sex partner in the past 4 weeks.
Comparability
CONUSHUS4WK has no comparability problems.
IPUMS-DHS uses composite coding with "Yes" responses having a first digit of "1." The second digit distinguishes between "Yes, some occasions" (code "11") and "Yes, each time had sex" (code "12"), when this additional information is available.
