DELBJ5_ALL variables are 1-digit variables.
0 = No
1 = Yes
8 = Missing
9 = NIU (not in universe)
Description
For women who gave birth in the last five years, DELBJ5_ALL indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported a matron (unqualified birth attendant) gave delivery care. This response category is country-specific to Benin.
DELBJ5_ALL consists of a set of up to six separate variables, covering the most recent birth (DELBJ5_01) up to the sixth-most-recent birth (i.e., DELBJ5_02, DELBJ5_03, DELBJ5_04, DELBJ5_05, and DELBJ5_06) during the reference period prior to the survey. If DELBJ5_ALL is included in a data extract, all these separate variables are included in a researcher's data file.
Comparability
Apart from slight differences in question wording, DELBJ5_ALL has no comparability problems.
Comparability - Standard DHS
An open-ended question about who provided delivery care is included in Phase II forward of the standard DHS questionnaire. DELBJ5_ALL is a country-specific response.
